Sayuri Matsuri

Sayuri Matsuri

I'm a guy that used to play a lot of video games. I'm a big fan of THE iDOLM@STER and I love the yuri genre to the point of having it control most of my decisions when it comes to watching anime. I like to play riichi mahjong a lot and am currently establishing a fitness plan for myself to become more healthier and stronger. For future career plans, I plan on getting a bachelor's of illustration since I figured out in my last year of highschool I like the arts a lot. My job at leetNEET is being an editor and social media director. I have been with leetNEET for almost 3 years now.

“If we could… die together… how happy would we be…?” Today, I will be stepping just a little bit out of my comfort zone and will be reviewing an ongoing manga. A relatively unknown artist, Takasaki Yuuki (高崎ゆうき), has created a supernatural yuri manga called Mugen no Minamo ni (To Eternal Minamo/むげんのみなもに). The header image indicates that while there are cutely designed characters, there are also deep and gruesome situations as well. Mugen no Minamo ni 's usage of adorable character designs with dark and heavy tones creates mournful feelings for the main characters as they suffer through their dilemmas. This first impression will cover the first two chapters of the manga.

Tsumo! 8000/12000 points! The spinoff to the Riichi Mahjong anime, -Saki-, has arrived. Saki is a show known for two great qualities: cute girls playing Mahjong and the yuri undertones within the series. With how the times have changed now, we now have a currently airing show of a Saki series in high definition. Considering how anime has evolved to providing high resolution episodes now, has this spinoff evolved the standards of an animated Saki series? Thankfully, Saki fans will be glad to know that the series is going in strong with its lovable girls playing Mahjong and yuri themes. Like the usual first impressions, I will be covering the first two episodes of the show.

Saki Achiga-hen Episode of Side A - Loli Nodoka Haramura

Loli Nodoka? Magnificent!

Plot: A couple of friends since childhood who play Mahjong are separated with time due to various circumstances. After a time lapse, one of our heroines sees their old friend that moved away on TV, winning a Mahjong tournament no less! The sight of her old friend she lovingly used to play Mahjong with winning ignites flames of passion she once had for Mahjong and immediately decides to revive the Mahjong club at their future high school. Thus begins the journey of our heroines who will compete fiercely to make it to the finals of the inter-high tournament.

Characters: The Saki universe is known for its huge cast of lovable characters with interesting quirks and qualities. With this side story introduced, there is even more appealing characters for viewers to love. One particular character that will stand out to viewers is Matsumi Yuu. She is the older sister of Matsumi Kuro and is very sensitive to cold weather, which makes her dress up interestingly strange outfits even in the summer.

While the cast is abundant in females, the characters are designed quite well to distinguish them from each other and spark interest in a viewer’s attention. A main aspect of what makes the cast unique is how they are brought to life through the voice acting of the seiyuus. Having respectable seiyuus like Hanazawa Kana, Yuuki Aoi, and Touyama Nao assuming the roles bring fantastic personality to the characters.

Art and Animation: A lot of wonderful art is featured in Saki Achiga-hen Episode of A Side. There are many beautiful backgrounds throughout the episodes and the animation is smooth and does not have any glaring errors. The characters transition well from the manga to anime and look fantastic.

Music: Featuring tracks from the first season of Saki brings back the relaxing and lively soundtrack Saki has. However, the new adaptation features new tracks as well which are great additions to the well composed musical score of Saki. The opening and ending songs sound good and fit the show nicely.

Overall: Such a satisfying spinoff has been delivered to Saki fans. The show is presented in such way that makes it appealing to those who are not even into Mahjong. If you are looking for an adorable and relaxing show to watch, be sure to check out Saki Achiga-hen Episode of Side-A.

Personal Statement: Oh god, this is a gift from the gods. This anime is so yuri.

For those interested in anime and fighting games, you may have heard of Aquapazza. Many have probably not heard of this niche 2D arcade fighter however. It is the latest game developed by Examu, which created the 2D fighter series, Arcana Heart. Aquapazza takes its playable characters from Aquaplus’ visual novel studio, Leaf. With a cast full of dating sim characters, the moves in this fighting game can be quite interesting to watch.

Did a bunch of bookshelves just come out of nowhere and fall on you?!

The PS3 version of Aquapazza will include at least four more characters (two playable, two assist) than the arcade edition. The home console port will contain a story mode, online play, score attack, a gallery, and an improved training mode. While no exact release date has been determined as of yet, Famitsu is expecting a release some time in June of 2012.

First Impressions: Bodacious Space Pirates

Avast, me hearties! There is new anime called Bodacious Space Pirates (Moretsu Pirates) sailing through the seas of this winter's anime season. Bodacious Space Pirates originally started off as a light novel series that began in October 2008 named Miniskirt Pirates. So, does the anime adaptation obtain the treasure of being praiseworthy to anime viewers, or does it walk the plank? Well, it can be safely said that it does walk away with some treasure! This impression will cover the first two episodes of the show.

Do not tell me it is another R-18 review, Sayuri. OBJECTION! As evidenced in the provided header image, your Honor; I am submitting a review of the Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney Official Casebook. Today, I will be taking at look both Official Casebook Volumes 1 and 2, which covers stories on Phoenix Wright and Miles Edgeworth. Both of the books are entirely created by fans of series, making it like a collection of doujinshi stories based on the events of the Ace Attorney series all bundled together.

Miles Edgeworth and Phoenix Wright

There is not much of a plot to the books, as they are just collection of random stories based on the Ace Attorney series. Many of stories contain some great slapstick humor though. Some of the stories also tug at the heartstrings of the readers, which pleasantly mixes well with overall lighthearted tone of the volumes. One thing that should be noted is that people who do not know the series very well will not understand some of things going on in the various stories, as they seem to clearly be for fans of the series. The art of the books varies since the Official Casebooks are composed of different artists’ works. It is pretty interesting to see many styles of drawing in one book.

Overall: Many Ace Attorney fans will definitely enjoy the books, but for readers who do not know much about series may not be able to enjoy the Official Casebooks.

P.S. Sayuri almost missed his article today since he tried to wait for his parents to go to work, but fell asleep. Luckily, he woke up early enough to not be super late for his article today. FIX YOUR SLEEPING SCHEDULE ALREADY, SAYURI!

Forbidden Review Festival – Sugar’s Delight

Reviewing all things forbidden, Sayuri is back once again for another R-18 special (underage readers may leave now)! Today’s review is about an eroge called Sugar’s Delight developed by a recently formed visual novel doujinshi group called Neko Soft. By the way, it is free to download! The visual novel contains pure girl-on-girl yuri action. K’yaaaaah! Aren’t you excited for such a heart racing subject? What? What’s with the look you’re giving me?! Anyways, I will note that this review will be as SFW as possible.

Why the title for this article you may ask? Well, it is because I will be reviewing a hentai anime OVA. That should be enough warning to those who cannot view such things, so on with the review! STAR☆jewel is a hentai anime OVA series that contains purely girl-on-girl futanari action. One factor that separates STAR☆jewel from the rest of hentai is the quality of animation as it comes in BluRay format. This review will attempt to be as SFW (safe for work) as possible.

Nothing Planned for a 3rd Season of K-ON

Fans of K-ON!, the ever popular slice of life series about music, will be disheartened to hear that the series has no plans for a third animated season. A staff member named “Blackmore” working for TBS's official K-ON! anime website and BBS responded to a BBS poster about a third season and was met with the news we have right now.

On the bright side, sad K-ON! fans can rejoice with the recent release of the K-ON! film, which has a story not featured in either animated seasons of the series. The film is said to have pulled in just over $4 million USD during it's release weekend.

Look in the sky! Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it is Wild Tiger and Barnaby! Fans of the crime fighting superheroes of Tiger & Bunny will rejoice with the announcement of two films being in production for the series. The news was announced at the Hero Awards 2011 event where staff previewed previously unseen footage. The first film is planned for next year. Curious fans can find some screenshots of the movie via Dengeki Online.
